We grew up working with small businesses. Since then, we have experienced all the most significant web-based changes with our clients, including the impact of social media, search engine thinking, the advent of mobile, and people’s new online habits.

The history of Cdweb begins with Pietro's story.

Like the best modern fairy tales, our story begins in the 1990s in a small room in the southern suburbs of Milan.

While Larry Page and Sergey Brin were working on the first version of Google, Pietro, a 25-year-old Political Science graduate, happened to become interested in the emerging digital world and began exploring the web and its basic websites. After working as a consultant for a software company, he decided to change direction, investing everything in two PCs and a telephone line.

Cdweb is born

In the years when the importance of ‘being on the internet’, as they used to say at the time, was beginning to be realised, Pietro began to bring artisans, restaurateurs and other small local businesses online with the help of a graphic designer and a programmer.

Like many agencies born in those years, Cdweb initially offered all Internet-related services: graphics, design, hosting, mailing, websites.

Despite the development of the business, Pietro wondered whether having a site would be enough: “OK to get them on the internet; but how will they be found by their customers?”.

Specialisation in SEO/SEM

At that time there was still no talk of SEO but, in response to the question of how to be found by customers, Pietro began an in-depth study on online positioning.

Meanwhile, after 6 years, the Cdweb team had grown in number of collaborators and professionalism, maturing the decision to specialise in SEO and SEM.

It was 2008 and Cdweb decided to focus on the growing online searches of users.

Cdweb thus switched from the promise of ‘going online’ to that of ‘being found by potential customers’.

The advent of mobile and social

In 2010, Google revised its algorithm and at Cdweb we began to understand the centrality of optimised experiences to attract users and the approach of a future increasingly linked to mobile devices.

With the consecration of social networks by Facebook, there was talk of the end of SEO.

We did not believe this, convinced that it was still fundamental to understand and intercept user searches. So we rethought our approach, trying to capture latent questions, needs that we were not yet aware of but which could be brought to light through suitable strategies.

Out of all these reflections came Cdweb’s new turning point: the development of the first strategic approach to SEO, which we called Search Marketing Design, and which we later recounted in a book also translated into English.

The new headquarters and the Lambrate Digital Lab

After the opening of the new headquarters in the heart of Lambrate, the Lambrate Digital Lab was born from the desire to share our journey in 2019.

In a short period of time, we gave birth to industry meetings and themed workshops, round tables with digital experts, marketers and business managers, which attracted over 2,800 members.

We never imagined we would be so successful: you have embraced our dream of building a community of professionals and enthusiasts in which to share experiences and thoughts.

Search Marketing Design has found new followers and thanks to the Cdweb contamination has grown even more: the Lambrate Digital Lab has given us the opportunity to meet new companies and forge new collaborations.
